HISTORIC CAIRO AND ANCIENT NILE EXPLORATIONS

Ever wanted to step inside the Great Pyramid? Take a trip to Egypt without leaving Alamogordo. David Greenwald of The Jornada Research Institute (JRI) will walk us through the historic sites and ancient monuments he and his tour group will visit later this October and November.
The journey starts at Giza. Explore the great pyramids with Dave, go inside the Pyramid of Khufu, visit the Great Sphinx, and learn about the wider Giza Necropolis. Next comes the Step Pyramid and the Saqqara Mortuary Complex, much of which recently opened to visitors.
From there, we head to Aswan and Abu Simbel to learn about the remarkable salvage operation that saved the Temple of Ramesses II and the Temple of Hathor and Nefertari. Then we travel by ship down the Nile from the Aswan Dam to Luxor, stopping at temples dedicated to pharaohs who became legends, and at their elaborate tombs.
At Thebes, the center of Egyptian power, we’ll explore a landscape of major temple building. The Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens served as the final resting place for Egypt’s royal families for 500 years.
